How to operate

1)    Attach the leveller to your towing vehicle or tractor:

a.    Any tractor mounted model – attach the leveller to your tractor using the three point linkage. Adjust the top link so the leveller sits level. Wind roller up so the roller sits an inch off the ground. Using the hydraulics adjust the depth of tines.

b.    Towing models fibre surface – connect ball hitch to towing vehicle, lift up the transport jockey wheel clear of the ground. Wind down roller adjusting handle to clear the tines of the ground, move into arena, adjust the depth of the tines with the adjusting handles.

c.    Towing models rubber surface – connect ball hitch to towing vehicle, ensure tines are clear of the ground, move into arena, adjust the depth of the tines with the adjusting handles.

d.    Towing model Super leveller – as towing fibre model however also ensure the transport wheels are clear of the ground before levelling.

e.    Towing Multi leveller – as towing fibre model however just one main adjusting handle to adjust the depth of tines.

2)    When adjusting the depth of tines for any model use a cautious depth to begin with – you can always stop and drop the tines further into the surface if required.

3)    Keep hands clear of rollers when adjusting for depth!

4)    Drive a short distance to check the depth of the tines is sufficient.

5)    Staying about 0.5m away from the track start at the top of the arena (at “A” or “C”) and drive in an approx. 20m circles and gradually spiral your way down to the opposite end of the arena (like you are riding a 20m circle on your horse, gradually working from one end of the arena to the other) – see diagram 1.

6)    Next, drive down the centre line and “track” left, turn down the centre line again just after your last track and again “track” left but just inside the track you just made, so you are now spiralling lengthways left to right – see diagram 2.

7)    You should always level the surface in two different directions to “cross” the levelling. Travelling in the same direction over time can cause waves and dips in the surface.

8)    When you are satisfied with your levelling stop the vehicle, secure handbrake and switch off engine. Wind up the tines to clear the surface. Knock off any fibres or rubber that have caught on the tines.

9)    Next, if the surface has built up around the edge of the arena/along the kick boards you need to use the side grader blade.

10)    Attach the side-grader blade using a 17mm spanner and ensure it is done up tightly. Make sure the main tines have been cleared of the surface before attaching the side grader blade.

11)    Drive slowly around the edge of the arena a couple of times using the side-grader blade. You may find this part of levelling a bit tricky to begin with, but as long as you drive slowly and take your time, you will quickly find this much easier than hand digging. Do not drive with the side grader blade if the main tines have NOT been cleared of the surface.

a.    Any tractor mounted model – if you are levelling with a tractor the corners can be easily maintained. Lift the leveller out of the surface, back into a corner and drop the leveller back down and drive forwards. Repeat in each corner.

12)    Stop vehicle, secure handbrake and switch off engine. Detach side grader blade and manoeuvre leveller outside of arena/to secure location.

Day to day maintenance:

•    Grease points on roller bearings and adjusting handles every 6 months
•    Keep adjusting handle threads clean by spraying with WD40 regularly
•    Keep hands clear of rollers when adjusting for depth and undertaking maintenance

Caution! – switch off your vehicle engine and secure the handbrake when working outside the vehicle to adjust the leveller in any way!
